Sergeant Dewey Abney & K9 RB
Sgt. Abney has served with the Westfield Police Department since 2014 and currently acts as the department’s K-9 Coordinator. He is partnered with RB, his second K-9, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois from Holland. The team graduated from Ultimate Canine in March 2025 and is certified in:

• Apprehension

K9 Billy
K9 Billy, a German Shorthaired Pointer from Hungary, is funded by the Indianapolis Colts through a public safety partnership with the City of Westfield. Billy specializes in:

• Explosives Detection
• Building Searches
• Area Searches 

Special Investigations Unit Detective Edward Stubbs & K9 Scout
Detective Stubbs joined WPD in 2015 and has served as a K9 handler since 2018. His partner, Scout, is a German Shorthaired Pointer from Hungary, certified in narcotic detection and trained at Vohne Liche Kennels.

Officer Preston Howard & K9 Bala
Officer Howard has been with the Westfield Police Department since 2021. K9 Bowie was born in Holland/Sweden on August 29, 2023, and is trained in:

• Article Searches
• Laser-Guided Searches
• Tracking
• Apprehension 

Officer Brad Robins & K9 Valkyrie ("Kiri")
Officer Robins has served with the Westfield Police Department since 2023 and is partnered with Valkyrie ("Kiri"), a Belgian Malinois born in France on May 20, 2024. K9 Kiri is trained in:

• Narcotic Detection
• Article Searches
• Tracking
• Apprehension

Community Support & K9 Wellness

The health and well-being of our K9 partners is a top priority. Since 2021, Coyne Veterinary Clinic has generously provided complimentary veterinary care, grooming, and boarding services. Additionally, Hollywood Feed has supported the unit by supplying premium dog food at no cost since July 2021.

These community partnerships have played a significant role in ensuring the health, longevity, and peak performance of Westfield’s service animals.
