History/Namesake
In the 1830s, the Quakers moved from the Carolinas and settled in Westfield, bringing with them honest business ethics and humanitarian values. Many of the Quakers moved north because of their opposing views of slavery, and many offered havens for the slaves who were escaping to Canada. Because of the history they brought to Westfield, the Town Council named Quaker Park in honor of that heritage when the park was established in 1997.
