Westfield, IN (December 4, 2024) — The City of Westfield and the Westfield Mayor’s Council on Disabilities are partnering for an inaugural Sensory Skate Night on Sunday, December 15 at the Ice Ribbon at Grand Junction Plaza (225 S. Union Street).
There will be two 45-minute skating sessions offered at 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. These sessions are free for individuals and their families who need a more sensory friendly skating experience. Attendees can also enjoy sensory activities inside and near the Café building.
“We are happy to partner with the Council on Disabilities to offer a free Sensory Skate Night at the Ice Ribbon,” said Mayor Scott Willis. “This event ensures that everyone in our community, regardless of ability, can enjoy the fun of skating in an inclusive, welcoming environment.”
The ice ribbon is a synthetic ice, which creates an easier skating experience for individuals of all abilities. Skate aids will be available, and wheelchairs will be allowed on the ice. In addition, there will be no music playing throughout the duration of the event.
If there is inclement weather, the Sensory Skate Night will be rescheduled to Tuesday, December 17 from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Those who reserved tickets will be notified via email of the change.
