Chief Shawn Keen received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in history from Chaminade University of Honolulu and his Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Oklahoma. Additionally, he holds a criminal justice certificate with graduate studies from the University of Virginia. Chief Keen graduated with honors from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy’s 135th Session. He is also a graduate of the 259th Session of the FBI National Academy and the Indiana Associations of Chiefs’ of Police Executive Leadership Academy. Chief Keen is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served as a military policeman and later as a member of the Hawaii Armed Services Police on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Before joining the Terre Haute Police Department, Chief Keen also worked as a correctional officer for the Indiana Department of Corrections.
Chief Keen served as a sworn member of the Terre Haute Police Department for 26 years before joining the Westfield Police Department as Chief. During his time with the Terre Haute Police Department, he was assigned to the uniform patrol division and criminal investigation division where he served as assistant chief for ten years. In addition to these primary duties, Chief Keen served as an operator, sniper, team leader, and commander of the Special Response Team for over 17 years. He was also a member of the department’s honor guard for over 18 years.
Chief Keen is an active member of the FBI National Academy Associates and both the International and Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police. Chief Keen and his wife Shelly have two children; Kelsey and Brendon.
